What's common in the genre ?? Scream edition !!
The movie Scream is really self aware, so a lot of the "convections" it follows it says in the movies. It has medium close ups, extreme close ups, cross cutting and show reverse shots the most often. Of course a long shot when the killer is revealed. The shots are usually tracking shots of Ghost face (the killer) causing the angles to be either low angles or Dutch angles (with head tilts). Pan movements are also very common. Scream uses a lot of different shots at least one for scares. Dialogue is exchanged between every character in the movie, there was a motif for every time the Ghost face popped up, ambient sound is common during party and school scenes and there is very little non-diegetic sounds. Ghost face is in a whole black robe with a white mask, while every teenagers is in something appropriate for the late 90s. However, the main character, Sidney, is shown to wear a lot more covering stuff then her friend Tatum, as a reference to popular horror movie trope. The main weapon is a knife but old and house phones are common as well. The scenes consisted of neighborhood houses, one big house-mansion in the middle of nowhere, a police station and school. I've noticed in the rest of the Scream movies much of the same as this one.
I like how self-aware the whole movie is, it's really funny and can make some really good jokes. The characters!! I LOVE Randy he was so funny, I also liked Stu better then Billy, but he also happens to be funnier then him too. I love how they were able to make you like and dislike certain characters, it was so much fun! Tatum, I love Tatum. I hate that Tatum died :(. I will be honest they can overdo it with the self-aware jokes, it was only a few thank god but other then that Scream is one of my favorite movies and I don't not like a lot of things.
