Comparing 9 (the short) and 9 (the full-length movie) !!

Good morning and good evening! my first impressions of the short film were, dark and clanky- like the noise, or the two things that made up the atmosphere of the short film. While clanky, none of the characters spoke, and because of that, there was no narration or explain the bases of the world, leaving the viewer slightly confused. However, the overall story was easy to understand, our main character 9 wants to avoid this mechanical monster that seems to be killing members of his...family? Other creations, such as 5, the only other one we saw both live and die. 9 goes from cowardice and freezing at the sight of danger to outthinking and eventually killing the creature. It seems to be in the thriller and possibly horror genre set in a post-apocalyptic world in the 1930s. It follows the conventions of a dark, gloomy but instead of actors it's a 3D animation (meaning most special effects are done through the model software), it uses a flash back for backstory and it has a visual motif through the pulsing green disk.

My first impression of the long film version was punk and dark and mechanical. The cast gets wider, people have voices, the world is explained to the audience as 9 is basically this worlds window. Everything is gritty, retro and ruined but the characters are lighter and do things that shock the audience. It is PG 13, so it gets a little more graphic than you think, you see a severed human hand and some of the characters do die. There are more monster then the original, now called the "beast". It also follows the conventions of the thriller genre, the camera movements, storyline, etc. The directorial style changed a little because of the Tim Burton add-on but only had a few funnier moments. The character development also got a lot more complicated, has now there was time to expand on even multiple characters, such has 1 or 7. The characters are all called "stichpunks" in the descriptions but seem more like ragdolls in style and look.

The full film had a more tim burton quirky feel, but both are still very serious. I mentioned the differences before, but the full length film has voice acting, a cohesive storyline and origins. Both had these mystical "soul stealing" plots but the longer film also had a rescue plot. The animation is a lot better with the bigger budget and is a lot less janky in movement. The full-length film was able to build upon the story and even add humans! There are very few different conventions within the movies, mostly being it gets less thriller and more mystery, find out what happened, who 9 is, who made the stichpunks, where 2 is etc. I prefered the full-length film, it's just more immersive and enjoyable. Happy birthday to whoever's birthday it is and goodbye!
